Position Purpose

Overall duty of this position is to provide leadership and operational direction of the Rope Access division. Working as a cohesive unit with other managers, the Rope Access Manager implements strategic plans to grow the business, supports the organization’s profits and targets and develops a highly skilled Rope Access division.

 

The Rope Access Manager identifies the needs of clients, deals with issues proactively and provides solutions while ensuring compliance is met within the Rope Access division.

 

Due to the nature of this position there will be on-call and overtime requirements as well as some travel.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Creating and implementing short and long-term business plans within the Rope Access division.
  • Take a lead role to oversee, initiate and drive Applus Canada’s Rope Access service line.
  • Collaborate with Regional Management and the Leadership Team to establish and execute regional focused business development strategies for the Rope Access service line.
  • In collaboration with the leadership team, developing and maintaining forecasts and budgets for Rope Access.
  • Develop a capable Rope Access team capable of delivering world class Rope Access services at the Regional Level.
  • Servicing existing Rope Access accounts by providing project management, technical representation in sales calls, preparing and submitting quotations and estimates, responding to RFPs, responding to client service requests.
  • Developing and maintaining operational plans for with on-going cost management, budget control, and performance management.
  • Leading, coaching, and mentoring direct reports to support high performance, employee development and succession planning, and supporting them in doing so with their reports.
  • Coordinating activities with other Applus regions to maximize the benefits and utilization of resources, equipment, personnel, training, and customer strategies.
  • Assessing current and future training needs in order to meet client demand and, (assist in) develops an effective mentoring program.
  • Maintaining a high level of expertise in relevant technology and applying continuous learning strategies to stay current with all aspects of work within Rope Access.
  • Ensures all work activities are performed in compliance with Applus Canada HSE policies and client HSE requirements.
  • Preparing purchase order status reporting, monitoring purchase orders for progress and providing communication on purchase order increases and scope changes with clients.
  • Overseeing IRATA, stewardship, KPI reporting for clients, head office and safety.
  • Maintaining a credible profile with relevant industry associations and representing Applus at events where required.
  • Upholding and promoting corporate values, standards, and processes at all times.
  • Adheres to organizational policies and procedures, including but not limited to Applus Code of Ethics and Confidentiality Agreements.
  • Other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Firmly adheres to the values and ethics of Applus Canada. Exhibits honesty, discretion, confidentiality, and sound judgment.
  • Strong technical knowledge of Rope Access techniques, services, and procedures.
  • Fundamental understanding of industry codes, regulations and practices and strong reporting skills.
  • Proven team leadership skills and the ability to influence others at all levels of an organization.
  • Understands the metrics used to measure business performance, including financial reporting, cost analysis, and forecasting.
  • Ability to be multifunctional and to work with appropriate departments and regions for the development of shared services and opportunities, staff management, and to maximize use of internal resources.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-directed while still supporting the team as a whole.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills matched with the ability to negotiate and build relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Excellent customer service focus, ability to quickly build strong working relationships with business partners and colleagues.
  • Must be able to perform in a fast-paced environment with ability to manage competing priorities, multi-task and change priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office and other software applications.

Education and Work Experience

  • Current Industrial Rope Access Trade Association, (IRATA) Level 3 Certification.
  • A minimum of ten years’ experience in Rope Access in a related field.
  • A minimum of ten years’ experience in supervisory/management.
  • Experience in project management is a strong asset.
  • Equivalent industry experience combined with other formal training and accreditations may be accepted.

Working Conditions

  • Required to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid and dry/arid conditions in temperature extremes and inclement weather.
  • Frequently required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials in various working environments.
  • Commonly exposed to walking on slippery or uneven surfaces.
  • Occasionally required to work in noisy/loud working environments especially on project sites.
  • Work outside of normal business hours will be occasionally required.
  • Overtime required during the week and weekend with work volume.
  • Ability to be flexible with work schedules and respond to requests without advance warning or notification.
  • Occasional to frequent travel will be required within Canada.
  • Working conditions will vary between project locations.
