Position Purpose

The Business Development Manager for VSS & Infrastructure Services will be responsible for driving revenue growth and expanding Applus’ presence in Vendor Surveillance Services (VSS) and Infrastructure Services across Canada. This role involves strategic sales, client management, market analysis, and oversight of complex service offerings. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in identifying, pursuing, and securing new business opportunities, leveraging Applus' global expertise in inspection, asset integrity, environmental monitoring, and infrastructure services.

 

Due to the nature of this position there will be some on-call and overtime requirements as well as some travel.

 

We are currently seeking candidates residing in Western Canada.

Duties and Responsibilities

Business Development & Strategic Growth:

  • Develop and execute comprehensive business development strategies to expand Applus’ VSS and Infrastructure Services in Western Canada.
  • Identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities by leveraging Applus’ technical expertise and global best practices.
  • Establish relationships with key stakeholders, including municipalities, provinces, water infrastructure operators, construction companies, and O&G facilities.
  • Coordinate commercial activities during the early stages of projects to establish long-term client relationships and ensure consistent revenue streams.
  • Lead business development efforts for vendor surveillance, leveraging relationships with key clients and local partners for international tenders.
  • Serve as a technical resource for both internal teams and clients, providing expert guidance on inspection methodologies and standards.
  • Stay current with industry standards, technical innovations, and best practices in VSS and infrastructure inspection.

 

Sales Execution & Market Expansion:

  • Meet or exceed revenue targets by expanding relationships with existing clients and identifying new opportunities.
  • Conduct market analysis to assess competition, pricing strategies, service gaps, and technological advancements.
  • Develop tailored proposals, RFIs, RFPs, and bid documents to secure new business opportunities in vendor inspection, asset integrity, and infrastructure services.
  • Collaborate with global and local Applus regions to ensure consistent application of best practices and alignment with company objectives.

Service Line Integration:

  • Lead business development efforts for the following service lines:
    • Vendor Surveillance Services (VSS): Manage and grow the Vendor Inspection business, ensuring performance targets for safety, quality, and profitability.
    • Inspection & Supervision (Construction Phase): Position Applus as a trusted partner during construction with a focus on entry barriers, registration requirements, and market knowledge.
    • Asset Integrity & 3D Modeling: Expand asset integrity services (bridges, O&G facilities) using remote defect inspections and advanced 3D modeling.
    • Water Infrastructure Inspection Services: Promote in-line inspection and trenchless repair solutions, targeting water companies and concessionaires.
    • Road Management Services using AI: Introduce AI-driven road asset inventory and pavement defect detection solutions to municipalities and provinces.
    • Instrumentation & Monitoring: Expand monitoring services for large-scale construction (CAPEX) and operational facilities (OPEX) by leveraging Applus' expertise in NDT.
    • Environmental Monitoring (AMBIENSQ): Promote IoT-based air and noise pollution monitoring for large facilities and public infrastructure.

Client Relationship Management:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, acting as the primary point of contact.
  • Ensure two points of contact are maintained with all key clients to safeguard continuity and communication.
  • Develop client education initiatives to introduce Applus' new technologies and service offerings.
  • Leverage existing NDT contracts to cross-sell infrastructure services and build integrated solutions for clients.

Operational Oversight & Collaboration:

    • Work closely with regional and operational teams to ensure seamless execution of projects and client satisfaction.
    • Coordinate with finance, operations, and technical teams to develop pricing strategies that align with regional and national objectives.
    • Facilitate the transfer of new technologies and best practices between Applus regions to maximize competitive advantage.
    • Ensure compliance with Applus policies, procedures, and quality standards, including ISO 9001 and ISO 17020.

Performance Metrics:

  • Achievement of annual revenue targets and growth objectives.
  • Expansion of Applus’ footprint in VSS and Infrastructure Services.
  • Client satisfaction and retention rates.
  • Successful bidding and contract wins for targeted service lines.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong technical understanding of vendor inspection, asset integrity, NDT, and infrastructure services.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute business strategies across multiple service lines.
  • Excellent customer service focus with the ability to build and maintain strong client relationships.
  • High-level analytical skills to assess market trends, competitive dynamics, and business opportunities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills appropriate for high-level client interactions.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with a focus on meeting deadlines and quality standards.
  • Familiarity with financial statements, budgeting, and profitability management.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 17020, and other relevant industry standards.
  • Able to maintain an extensive and current network of relevant customer and technical contacts throughout Canada and North America.
  • Effective coach and mentor; assists in developing skills and abilities of colleagues and staff.
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office, specifically Excel, and other software applications.
  • Verbal and written communication skills appropriate to interactions with high-level customers and professionals in both business and technical environments.
  • Firmly adheres to the values and ethics of Applus. Exhibits honesty, discretion, confidentiality, and sound judgment.

Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in business development or operations in NDT, VSS, or related industries.
  • Experience in vendor inspection, infrastructure services, and asset integrity management is a strong asset.
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding revenue targets and securing large-scale contracts.

Working Conditions

  • The physical environment requires the employee to work inside an office environment, protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
  • The work will be primarily sedentary.
  • Frequent interaction with clients in-person and remotely.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
  • Flexibility with work schedules and availability to respond to client requests outside regular business hours.
  • Occasional to frequent travel will be required within Canada. 
  • There may be requirements to visit sites, which could change the work environment. Could be commonly exposed to walking on slippery or uneven surfaces. May occasionally be required to work in noisy/loud working environments, especially on project sites. May be exposed to heat/cold, wet/humid and dry/arid conditions in temperature extremes and inclement weather.
