Position Purpose

The overall duty of this position is to work in collaboration with Operational Management Staff to provide accurate project metrics and project reports. The Senior Cost Analyst ensures all project specific data and analysis is conducted according to client and internal specifications.

 

Due to the nature of this position there will be some on-call and overtime requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works directly with the Cost Analyst and provides ongoing mentorship including client expectations for their role.
  • Provides accurate project metrics and project reports including but not limited to forecasts, actuals, budget at completion, estimate at completion, etc.
  • Provides accurate business unit performance metrics including forecasts, actuals to date and profit margins.
  • Defines project specific cost breakdown structure (CBS) and timesheet cost coding.
  • Inputs site timesheet data in the applicable HRIS or required timekeeping software.
  • Verification of work order setups in ERP System; correct any issues including notifying the local resource of errors and correcting in the ERP system.
  • Generates and populates work reports based on supporting operational data such as time records, expense reports and other project billable items including consumables and equipment.
  • Confirms the receipt and capture of all billable expenses through system project reporting; coordinates with Accounts Payable to obtain missing or inaccurate project expenses.
  • Coordinates with Operational Management staff to ensure data completeness and accuracy for all project analysis reporting and invoicing requirements.
  • Coordination, verification, validation of job cost information and data entry of labour, equipment, materials reports into customers’ portal.
  • Monitors daily project work orders and work report processing.
  • Prepares invoices, complete with required backup documentation and submits to clients for approval and payment.
  • Maintains and compiles monthly Work in Progress (WIP) reports.
  • Meets department closing schedule timelines and responsibilities including entering in all work in progress accurately.
  • May act as a sponsor for client site security clearances including submission of security clearance applications.
  • Proactively researches and resolves any project reporting issues and escalates as necessary.
  • May provide internal customer service by answering all inquiries professionally and timely.
  • Reviews all project reporting for accuracy and completeness.
  • Supports the Nuclear Services department where necessary, as required.
  • Provides payroll support backup on an ad hoc basis based on business need.
  • Adheres to organizational policies and procedures, including but not limited to Applus Code of Ethics and Confidentiality Agreements.
  • Other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary.

Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Business Administration or Business Diploma from an accredited College or University.
  • Experience in Cost Control or Finance.
  • Previous experience of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Accounting system is required.
  • Previous experience in relevant customers’ time and materials management software systems is required.
  • Project Management experience is a strong asset.
  • Strong industry knowledge of NDE is an asset, as well as familiarity with both union and non-union timekeeping.
  • Payroll experience considered an asset.
  • Equivalent industry experience combined with other formal training and accreditations may be accepted.

Working Conditions

  • The physical environment requires the employee to work inside an office environment, protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.

  • The work is primarily sedentary.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

  • Work outside of normal business hours will be occasionally required.

  • Overtime required during the week and weekend with work volume.

  • Ability to be flexible with work schedules and respond to requests without advance warning or notification.

  • Occasional travel may be required within Canada.
