Position Purpose

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Project Manager to oversee geotechnical instrumentation projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of the project lifecycle, from initiation to completion, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The Project Manager will work closely with clients, stakeholders, and project teams to define project objectives, develop project plans, allocate resources, and monitor progress. The Project Manager maintains a high level of expertise in relevant technology and applies continuous learning strategies to stay current with all aspects of the work. 

 

Due to the nature of this position there will be on- call and overtime requirements as well as some travel.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Project Planning: Develop comprehensive project plans outlining scope, objectives, deliverables, timelines, and resources required.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with clients, stakeholders, and project teams to understand requirements, expectations, and constraints.
  • Resource Management: Allocate resources effectively to ensure that project tasks are completed on schedule and within budget.
  • Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks to minimize potential impacts on project objectives.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure that project deliverables meet quality standards and client requirements.
  • Communication: Maintain regular communication with clients, stakeholders, and project teams to provide updates on project status, progress, and any issues or changes.
  • Change Management: Manage changes to project scope, schedule, and budget, ensuring that appropriate approvals are obtained and changes are implemented effectively.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate project documentation, including project plans, schedules, budgets, and reports.
  • Health and Safety: Ensure that health and safety protocols are followed throughout the project lifecycle to maintain a safe working environment for all project personnel.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and lessons learned to enhance project delivery effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Adhering to organizational policies and procedures, including but not limited to Applus.
  • Code of Ethics and Confidentiality Agreements.
  • Other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary.

It is desired to be familiar with:

  • Instrumentation Design: Designing and specifying instrumentation systems such as inclinometers, piezometers, settlement gauges, and strain gauges to monitor ground and structural behavior.
  • Installation and Calibration: Installing, calibrating, and maintaining geotechnical instruments on-site according to project requirements and standards.
  • Data Collection: Collecting, recording, and analyzing data from instrumentation systems to assess the stability, deformation, and other geotechnical parameters of soil, rock, and structures.
  • Monitoring and Analysis: Monitoring real-time data from instruments, interpreting trends, and analyzing results to identify potential risks, assess the impact of environmental factors, and predict behavior changes.
  • Report Writing: Preparing detailed reports and documentation on instrumentation findings, data analysis, and recommendations for stakeholders, including engineers, project managers, and clients.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and quality of instrumentation systems and data through regular checks, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring adherence to relevant industry standards, codes, and safety regulations in instrumentation design, installation, and data collection.
  • Problem-Solving: Identifying and addressing challenges related to instrumentation performance, data interpretation, and recommending corrective measures to mitigate risks.
  • Continuous Improvement: Staying updated with advancements in geotechnical instrumentation technologies and methodologies, and implementing best practices to enhance monitoring and assessment techniques.

Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or Civil Engineering with Geotechnical background.
  • 10 years of professional experience in Instrumentation and Monitoring projects. Urban, underground works, etc.

Working Conditions

  • Required to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid and dry/arid conditions in temperature extremes and inclement weather.
  • Frequently required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials in various working environments.
  • Commonly exposed to walking on slippery or uneven surfaces.
  • Occasionally required to work in noisy/loud working environments especially on project sites.
  • Work outside of normal business hours will be occasionally required.
  • Overtime required during the week and weekend with work volume.
  • Ability to be flexible with work schedules and respond to requests without advance warning.
  • Occasional to frequent travel will be required within Canada.
  • Working conditions will vary between project locations.
